Flower girls!

Little Bowtique Headband
Typically a bridal party consists bridesmaids, groomsmen, maid/matron of honour, best man, flower girl(s), page boy(s), bride and groom.

Little Bowtique headbands

In recent times here at Little by Little we have witnessed a big shift! Gone are the days of the big bridal parties...  I don't know if it's economically or aesthetically based, less of a headache or just a massive cuteness factor, but a lot of brides are opting for a more minimal approach!  Bride, groom and a few little flowergirls...

And who can blame them!  I had 2 bridesmaids, a flowergirl  and boy that was hard work!  One of my bridesmaids who shall remain nameless  constantly missed pre-arranged fittings, wasn't happy with the design of the dresses or shoes or hair and constantly made scenes.  Mind you I paid for everything, they didn't pay for a single thing! To top it off the day before my wedding, I booked the hairdresser to set their hair in rollers and we couldn't find her anywhere!  She went to a music festival and simply forgot, while I was sweating bullets!

My little flowergirl on the other hand was a joy!  She was excited, her beautiful mum had her there at every fitting on time no arguments, no scenes, she was one of the first there on the day and everything ran smoothly...

Life is so much simplier with the little ones... We have them come in the shop all the time to get their flowergirl dresses and they are so so happy!  Their enjoyment of just wearing a beautiful dress is inflectious!  As for the little boys, we have dressed so many in a nice shirt with cool linen pants or shorts.  Elegant and versatile! Why wouldn't you just want the little people to be by you on your special day.

Tutu Du Monde Dresses and Accessories
Another thing about having only little ones is that you have so many different options, you can go dressy, boho, beachy at a fraction of the cost of the bigger girls and boys!  Think of how much you need to spend on bridesmaid dresses or suits!

A flower girl will typical walk in front of the bride to help the bride make her entrance.  Spreading flower petals on the floor,  and whether she is wearing feathers in her hair to compliment her Tutu Du Monde dress or a flower Little Bowtique headband to go with her One Red Fly dress, that little ball of cuteness will no doubt capsure many hearts!

Buying for summer '12

Done! Finished! Over and out! For another season that is...

My favourite part of my job is done for another season and what can I say it has been a very interesting buying season to say the very least!

For this year what I have decided to do is to tell you my favourite pieces of each brand order, here goes:

Fred Bare - Boys -  Skateboard Tee in the most divine muted purple & the most funky 70's inspired shorts that work back like a dream
Fred Bare - Girl - the most A-M-A-Z-I-N-G white crochet baby girls dress, so disappointed they didn't carry it through to the big girls

Tutu Du Monde - The most beautiful lavender tutu with an exagerated skirt and little bling detail!  So gorgeous...

Purebaby - I absolutely loved the gorgeous range of blankets for the new season!  Great colours and designs.

One Red Fly - the sheerest white dress with grey/black floral detailing... dreamy.  Also the fact that they are going up to a size 14!  (yeah! all the mums roar, as they can now fit into it themselves)

Snippets of summer '12/13
GAIA - where does one start... the cutest little tees and pants in the most amazing soft pink!  Also the exquisite mint green newborn range.

Minti - the stripe red/white and blue/white tanks! Love! Love! Love! Also love the fact that they are going up to a size 10!

Munster - THE spray can TEE!

Missie Munster - so many pieces here but if I had to pick one it would have to be the red Tee Dress with the dandelion on it!

Kiniki - Worn denim shorts & the pink shorts both amazing!

Nolita Pockets - love the signature dress! Also very sad to let you know that summer '12 is Nolita Pockets last season...

Desigual - phenominal tops in stripes (I do love my stripes!)

Also a few new things that I am very excited about and will give you details a bit later!

A few brands not doing  summer this year are Mini and Miss Metalicus, Tommy Rocket and Two Belles as well.  Sad to see them go...

Unfortunately I can't give you pictures all I can say is stay tuned!!!!!     When I can I will and I am sure you will love as much as I have!

Some great information on Sophie the Giraffe

Sophie the Giraffe has been around for over 50 years!  Although a relative new phenomenon here in Australia, Sophie has been around for over 50, even I had one due to the fact that I was born in Europe!  Sophie is the darling of the celebrity babies as well!

I would like to pass on some information about Sophie and also take the time to view the short movie on how Sophie's are made.  Very informative and also it makes you appreciate the work that is put in to make one of these dolls!

"Paint on Sophie the Giraffe
The food-grade paint on Sophie the Giraffe is mineral based and safe for baby to chew and suck on. It is normal for the paint to gradually wear off. For this reason we do not replace Sophies with worn and faded paint.

How to look after Sophie?
Clean with a damp cloth and soapy water. Do not immerse Sophie in water as this will damage the squeaker. Don’t sterilise it by boiling or microwaving it (it could damage the natural rubber and the squeaker).

Why do Sophies differ in appearance?
Some customers comment that their Sophie looks different from their friend’s one. Sophie is handmade and hand painted so that’s why they all look a bit different. We’d recommend you have a look at the movie on how Sophie is made on Vulli’s website:

I hope you are more enlightened on the workings of Sophie!

Benita in here favourite Nolita bikini & kaftan
The last couple of days I have been helping my father "de-clutter" his house getting ready for sale.  Over the years I have been storing all my children's keepsakes at my parents house.  Suitcases and moving bags full of "memorable" clothes, shoes, rattles, soft toys but in particular clothes  that I have not had the heart to part with or hand down to family and friends.

The most beautiful layette from Petite Bateau, all white with a silver/lavender/pale green trim all so tiny and little that my mum brought when she found out I was pregnant.  Dresses of my daughters from Osh K'Osh, Gumboots, Kenzo, Fred Bare, DKNY, jeans and tops of my sons from Rare, Energie, Diesle, Fred Bare.  Some absolutely amazing pieces I have to say.  And so many memories attached with these. Little boots from Timberland that my son wore when he was 3 years old!  Doc Martens that my mum again brought from overseas.  Embroidered jeans from Nolita Pockets that Benita loved and of course there most treasured lasting pieces from Fred Bare.

Some brands have gone through radical changes during the years, ie Run Scotty Run, back then so delicate and unique now mass produced and quite common.  Some brands have gone altogether, ie Trelise Cooper Kids, which has made me very sad.  But for me these clothes are so sentimental and my own little bit of history.

I don't know what my kids will do with these clothes that I have kept and friends have suggested that maybe I should do a little "retrospective" in the shop especially with the Fred Bare pieces which I have so many, like a "museum" window or something... All I know that every now and then I will definitely be bringing them out and marvelling at my kids vintage fashion!
